5 Reasons To Lift Weights

1. Use carbohydrates better

When lifting weights, you find in most not all, but most individuals have the ability to use carbohydrates better. Regular resistance training has allowed me and my clients to increase carbohydrate intake whilst still dropping body-fat. I feel this is due to being able to utilize carbohydrates better.

2. Burn more calories post exercise

Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). Exercise that consumes more oxygen burns more calories, for this reason doing something like resistance training you will find yourself consuming more oxygen which can lead to more calories burnt. Also by using shorter rest periods, you will find yourself using up more oxygen. Ensure form is always key to your movements though.

3. Build strength

The best part of lifting weights, building strength! A stronger you…. creates a happier you. I don’t care what anyone says, being stronger within yourself is an incredible feeling to take into everyday life. Real strength is created with good form. Don’t always chase numbers. Remember work hard but stay smart, avoid injuries.

4. Handle stress better

Anyone who has lifted weights and probably felt the stress relief benefits of training, some almost find it therapeutic. This is why I recommend daily activity, its vital for health and happiness. Aim to get at least 10k steps a day, this has shown in clients to be a good daily activity level and it’s something you can start now. Give it a go!

5. Improved mindset

Save the best until last as they say. Mindset is so important for everyday life. Being able to spend an hour improving yourself daily can create a powerful habit that you can take into everyday life. How many times do you hear someone say when I was going gym I was unhappy? Work on yourself daily and overtime it will all add up. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Enjoy life but also appreciate the opportunities you have to grow….Not just in body but mind also.

These are just 5 of my favourite reasons to lift weights. I don’t judge those who don’t, I just like to give people a little view of the bigger picture and how 1 hour a day can improve your life greatly.

All of these things are what I have learnt through my own journey and clients. There are many studies to back up most of these but honestly take my word for it, these are just very few of the benefits of lifting weights, feel free to look into it more. It will surprise you!
